In this issue, I will first introduce you to "grease" (snow oil). The types of grease can be roughly classified according to their hardness, pressure transferability, dripping point, water resistance and stability.
3.1 Hardness
Hardness, or penetration, is a measurable property that must be considered when selecting an appropriate grease. The hardness of the grease is determined by the number. No. 0 is the softest, and then increases with No. 1 and No. 2 to No. 6. No. 6 has the same hardness as a bar of soap. The mud in the garden is softer when shoveled in, and harder when shoveled in. The hardness of grease is the same. It is graded based on the penetration depth of grease dropped from a certain height by a cone meter. Printing machinery must add grease of appropriate hardness in accordance with the printing machine manufacturer's requirements, otherwise it may cause insufficient lubrication or increase resistance to the machine parts.
3.2 Pressure feeding property
Another characteristic of grease is the ease of pressure delivery; in the central grease supply system, two greases that are equally easy to be pressure-delivered at room temperature often have great differences in pressure-delivery properties in lower temperature environments. different.
The difference comes from the type and proportion of lubricating oil and soap contained in the grease. Some printing machinery and binding equipment use a central grease supply system to lubricate various components of the machinery, so it is extremely important to select grease with excellent pressure feed properties.
3.3 Drop point
Because the grease contains different soap groups, different greases will melt at different temperatures. The dropping point is the temperature at which the grease changes from semi-solid to liquid; most calcium soap greases melt at 160-210°F, sodium soap greases at 350-350°F, and lithium soap greases at 350-400°F, so at high temperatures It is better to use sodium soap or lithium soap. Nowadays, most printing machines are very fast. Due to the high rotation speed of the motor bearings, the bearing temperature also increases accordingly. Using grease with a higher dripping point can make high-speed motor bearings such as "carbon precision pumps" "Bearings etc. are better protected.
3.4 Water resistance
Some greases still need to perform their lubricating function regardless of contact with water, so their water resistance is an important property. Calcium soap and lithium soap based greases are insoluble in water, while sodium soap grease is soluble in water, so it cannot be used as a lubricant that may come into contact with water. The printing process requires mixing of water, so some bearings must be protected by grease with good water resistance. Otherwise, the service life of the bearings will be greatly reduced.
3.5 Stability
Some grease can still maintain its original hardness after being added to the bearing, which means it has high stability; this grease can soften after working in the anti-wear bearing for a period of time, and will flow out of the bearing if there is no good seal. come out. During the printing process, powder spraying is continuous and has great coverage. If the grease used has poor stability, it will be easier for contaminants to enter the bearings and components, causing great damage to the printing machine.
Traditionally, the design and production of greases have only focused on solving single problems faced by mechanical equipment. Such as high temperature, high speed, high pressure or anti-wear. Later, due to the requirements of machinery manufacturers and the influence of intensified market competition, the production of grease gradually moved in the direction of multi-function. However, general petroleum products always have their limits of use and cannot effectively meet the rapid development requirements of modern production equipment. Although it is not easy to choose the appropriate lubricant, there are also some professional lubricant suppliers in the market who can provide professional data and long-term after-sales service, thereby reducing customers' usage errors and avoiding wasting valuable time and money. You may wish to listen to the opinions of people in the industry, I believe it will help protect the good performance of the printing press.
