What is the difference between CI flexo and inline flexo?

The core differences between CI flexo Central Impression and inline flexo flexo can be analyzed from four dimensions: device structure, printing process, application scenarios, and production efficiency.

 

1.Equipment structure
Flexo is designed with a central impression cylinder, with all printing units (color stations) arranged symmetrically around a large cylinder. In multicolor printing, the substrate is in close contact with the surface of the drum, usually around most of the drum's circumference. This design ensures stable web tension and is ideal for high-speed printing of thin materials such as film and foil.
An inline flexible version usually refers to a laminated or inline printing press in which the printing apparatus is arranged horizontally or vertically. The substrates pass through the units in turn, each station operating independently. Tension control relies on a separate system to make it more suitable for low to mediumspeed production or for job requiring complex post-printing processing.

 

2.Printing process characteristics
CI Flexible Edition:
Very high registration accuracy due to synchronous units and stable substrate support the central drum, with minimal tension variation.
Short ink path design allows accurate ink transfer and reduces waste.
Efficient drying systems (hot air, infrared or ultraviolet) can be installed between stations to prevent ink mixing.

Inline flexo:
A high degree of flexibility to adjust the sequence or number of printing units to meet diverse job requirements.
Easier to integrate post-printing processing, such as die-cutting or laminating.
Because the network path is long, the tension control is more challenging and more complex systems are required to maintain stability.

 

3.Application scenarios
CI Flexible Edition:
Widely used in soft packaging, especially in food and consumer goods packaging film.
Ideal for thin, easily deformable substrates and designs that require precise registration such as gradients and details.
Due to high production speed and low waste rate, it is most suitable for long-run production.

Inline flexo:
Suitable for short-term work with frequent job changes, such as labeling or promotional materials.
Able to handle thicker substrates, such as paper and corrugated cardboard, usually used in pre-printing of cardboard boxes and similar applications.
Support special finishing processes, such as spot coating or foil effects, but additional equipment may be required.

 

4. Productivity
C. Flexo emphasizes high-speed, mass-produced, stable quality with minimal waste.
Inline flexo prioritises flexibility and adaptability, making it more efficient for varied small batches of job at relatively low speeds.
